Something that always entices people to plan a trip to Oman is the abundance of diverse landscapes waiting to be explored within a mere couple of weeks. From vibrant cities, beaches, mountain ranges and the vast deserts. Along with extremely welcoming locals, Oman really does have it all! In this article, I will focus on visiting Wahiba Sands and staying in the most luxurious desert camp in Oman.

Wahiba Sands, also known as Sharqiya Sands, is the heart of eastern Oman. Spending at least one night in the desert during your time in Oman is an incredible opportunity to disconnect from the modern world, immerse yourself in nature and experience more of the Omani culture.

Thousand Nights Sharqiya Sands Camp recently provided me with a complimentary stay at their camp, in exchange for my honest opinion.

There are multiple desert camps in Oman, ranging from traditional Bedouin-style camps to luxurious glamping. I hope after reading this article you can see why Thousand Nights stands out above the rest!

How to Reach Wahiba Sands

Wahiba Sands is located in the eastern region of Oman. It stretches across an area of approximately 12,500 square kilometres and is situated south of the coastal town, of Sur.

Driving to Wahiba Sands from Sur will take approximately an hour & 20 mins. Or, if coming from Oman’s capital city Muscat, it’s closer to a 2-hour drive.

Then the fascinating city of Nizwa is 182km from the edge of the desert. No matter where you’re coming from, Wahiba Sands is the perfect location to slot into any Oman itinerary.

Wahiba Sands is renowned for its golden sand dunes that extend as far as the eye can see. Offering visitors a mesmerizing desert landscape to explore & relax in.

Accommodation Details

Thousand Nights Sharqiya Sands Camp provided a desert experience like no other. As a travel blogger, it’s my pleasure to present diverse accommodation options to my readers. While at this enchanting camp, you’ll find modern comfort that meets traditional Arabian hospitality.

Thousand Nights Sharqiya Sands Camp in Oman offers guests an authentic desert experience. With accommodation options that perfectly complement the magical surroundings.

From luxurious Bedouin-style tents to deluxe family accommodations, Thousand Nights provide a range of options to cater to different preferences. The Sheikh Tents are perfect for couples who are happy with the most basic choice, Ameer Tents are ideal for visitors with a bigger budget and are after the traditional style but with add-ons like a flat-screen TV and private pool. Then the Sand House is the best option for big groups or families.

Every option blends seamlessly with the natural environment. You’ll always find vibrant Arabian textiles, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Plus, you’ll find comfortable beds, traditional furnishings, and modern amenities, ensuring a relaxing stay.

During my time at Thousand Nights, I was hosted in a Sheikh Tent Deluxe. This option was perfect for my husband and me, a comfortable peaceful room, with a spacious outdoor bathroom and a view of the sand dunes.

Activities and Experiences Offered at This Desert Camp in Oman

Guests at a Thousand Nights camp can relish a range of activities, such as camel rides, dune bashing, a games room, and stargazing. Additionally, the camp organizes cultural experiences that offer insights into Bedouin traditions. Including traditional music performances and also outdoor movies on the big screen near the fire pit.

For the majority of my stay, I was more than happy relaxing by their picturesque pool and admiring the views of the golden sand dunes.

I highly recommend taking the opportunity to rise early and watch the magic of a desert sunrise. Seeing the tones of the sand continuously change is a unique site. One that should definitely be embraced.

Behind the tents, there’s a well-walked trail to the top of the dunes. This activity will have you building up an appetite for the delicious breakfast you’ll soon be served!

A Thousand Nights Camp also offers transfers from Bidiya, for those guests who haven’t hired a 4WD in Oman or may not be comfortable navigating themselves through the desert.

These transfers cost 42 OMR, return for up to 4 people.

We met the driver in Bidiya and before heading off on the 40-minute drive into the desert, he showed us where we could safely leave our rental car for the night.

Dining Options Available at a Thousand Nights

Dining at Thousand Nights Sharqiya Sands Camp is a culinary journey that celebrates the flavours of Oman and includes a taste of India.

The camp offers a delightful buffet of authentic dishes, including grilled meats, fragrant rice dishes, flavorful stews, and freshly baked bread. And, I’m happy to report that they can also cater to Vegan dietary requirements.

The dining experience is enhanced by the mesmerizing desert surroundings. The open-air dining hall spares no details with traditional furniture. Or there’s an outside seating area that lets guests enjoy their meals under the starlit sky. It’s an opportunity to savour the rich flavours of Oman while immersing oneself in the magical atmosphere of the Sharqiya Sands.

Depending on the number of guests staying at the camp, the kitchen staff will either serve a buffet dinner or deliver a beautifully presented mini buffet right to your table.

Breakfast and dinner will be included in your room rate, plus there’s a lovely drinks menu, and these can be charged to your room.

How Were The Staff & Service at 1000 Nights?

The staff at Thousand Nights Camp is renowned for their warm hospitality and attentive service.

And, I’m pleased to report that this is exactly what I found (possibly even the thing that impressed me the most about this desert camp in Oman).

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine smiles and a desire to ensure our stay was exceptional. Many of the staff were ex-pats living in Oman. For extended periods would live within the grounds of the camp. Making them knowledgeable about the local area. Also, everyone was always more than happy to provide guidance and recommendations for activities & excursions.

Pricing & How to Book a Thousand Nights in Oman

When it comes to the price point of desert camps in Oman, Thousand Nights is like many other camps in Wahiba Sands, doesn’t come cheap. At least compared to other accommodation options in Oman.

Although I do believe that as a premier desert camp in Oman, Thousand Nights prices are competitive and reflect the high-quality services, luxurious accommodations, meals included and unique offerings this award-winning desert camp provides.

While specific prices may vary depending on the season and the chosen room type, Thousand Nights Sharqiya Sands Camp provide a range of options to suit different budgets without compromising on the authenticity and comfort of the desert experience.

Bookings can be made directly on their website or via any popular booking site.

This desert camp in Oman is seasonal and each year closes from May to September. During these months the daily temperature can reach 54 degrees & Wahiba Sands can experience a lot of sand storms.

In Conclusion ~ Would I Recommend This Desert Camp in Oman?
