Finding The Best Adventures in Oman
Oman is an awesome destination for adventure seekers! With its stunning desert landscapes, hidden wadis perfect for hiking, and untouched coastline for snorkelling, there’s no shortage of thrilling activities to get your heart racing. Plus, the warm hospitality of the locals and the chance to immerse yourself in a rich culture make Oman an unforgettable and laid-back adventure hub.
Hereās a rundown of the best type of adventures that can be found in Oman
Swimming in Wadis
Diving into the crystal-clear waters of Oman’s wadis will be a dream for anyone who loves to explore the outdoors. These natural oases tucked away amidst rugged mountains offer the perfect spot to cool off. Donāt forget to pack your (modest) swimsuit, water shoes and towel, then jump in, and prepare to experience nature’s own exhilarating waterparks in Oman.
All of the Wadis in Oman required at least a little bit of hiking, but that’s all part of experiencing the adventures in Oman and a great way to see the natural landscape. Also, some of the Wadis can only be reached by driving a 4 x 4 but definitely not all of them.
These Wadis were my favourite, all required hiking and the entrance can be reached without a 4W4;
Wadi Shab
Wadi Bani Khalid
Wadi Damm

Whether you love rugged adventures or luxury accommodations, both can easily be found in the deserts of Oman. And the incredible stargazing opportunities are incomparable. Far away from city lights, lay back on the warm sand, and be captivated by the breathtaking canopy of stars above. It’s an awesome experience that will make you feel like you’re on a magical journey through the cosmos in the heart of Oman’s rugged beauty.Ā
One of the best options for desert accommodation in Oman is Thousand Nights Camp, located in Wahiba Sands. Click here to read my full review of Thousand Nights Camp.Ā
Witness Sea Turtle Nesting
For many, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and being in Oman will make it even more special. Witness the incredible sight of sea turtle nesting on the sandy beaches.
Oman has 5 of the world’s 7 species of sea turtles, Green Turtle, Loggerhead, Hawksbill, the Olive Ridley Turtle and Leatherback Turtle. From May to October, these gentle giants return to their ancestral nesting grounds, where you can observe them laying their eggs under the moonlit sky. As with all wild animal encounters these experiences aren’t guaranteed, maybe the turtles wonāt feel like showing up the day youāre there. But itās definitely still worth a shot.
Two of the best places to witness nesting sea turtles, particularly if your trip to Oman is for two weeks or less are;
The beaches surrounding Sur and Ras Al Jinz. And, the Ras Al Jinz turtle reserve (which is also a hotel), is a key destination for anyone wanting to sight turtles as they have their own 6km deserted beach. If you arenāt staying at the hotel, for a fee of 8 OMR you can join one of their tours and information sessions.Ā

There are endless secrets to uncover while exploring Oman’s ancient forts & castles that are scattered across the landscape. Wander through the captivating ruins, and let your imagination run wild. You can envision the tales of warriors and royalty that once roamed these impressive structures. It’s a thrilling journey back in time and will satisfy both your love for adventure and your curiosity about Oman’s rich heritage.
