Best Phuket Resort For Couples? Review of Thavorn Beach Village Resort & Spa

When travelling to a popular holiday destination like Phuket, it can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to deciding where to stay. So after spending two nights at Thavorn Beach Village Resort & Spa (I may have just found the best Phuket resort for couples) I’m hoping this review will help with your decision making.

Overview of Thavorn Beach Village Resort & Spa, Phuket

The motto for Thavorn resorts is “Where Thai Tradition Meets Nature”, and as soon as I arrived I got where they’re coming from.

Even when I think back to my time at this resort the first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful gardens. There were countless varieties of trees and flowers, all blending perfectly with the natural surroundings.

I truly found this a place to escape and unwind. And, I was travelling with my husband and we particularly found this to be a great resort for couples. So could this be the best Phuket resort for couples? Below I will break down all the features of this resort & how I found the experience.

Thavorn Resort Room Types

The room type I stayed in was Tropical Garden View and by far my favourite thing about this room was the big size with so much natural night.

The room features a large bed, along with a day bed to lounge on next to one of the windows. Plus a small desk area, tea, coffee & bar fridge, a semi-outdoor (massive) bathroom and an outdoor seating area.

This room type was also only a few steps away from the beach but didn’t have ocean views. The resort does have free wifi in the room but I did find the connection very weak at times.

When first checking into the resort there is transport provided to your room so no need to carry your luggage any further.

The other room types at Thavorn Beach Village Resort are;

Beachfront Cottage
Lagoon Pool Access Rooms
Hillside rooms with Seaview

Although I haven’t seen inside any of these room types!

Resort Facilities and Services

Lagoon Style Swimming Pool

First and foremost the lagoon-style pool at Thavorn Beach Village Resort & Spa was absolutely amazing. I read that this swimming pool is one of the biggest lagoon pools in South East Asia. And, the way it weaved around the gardens meant there was always a more private section to relax.

One night I was still in the pool as the sun was going down, floating around to the loud sounds of cicadas and birds, surrounded by such beautiful gardens, it felt like I was in a tropical retreat.

Gym

Located at a quiet end of the resort is where to find the gym. It’s not massive but I believe had most of the essential pieces of equipment, enough to keep you going on holidays anyway. Also, there’s floor to ceiling windows that give guests the most beautiful ocean views while working out.

Fun Photo Ops

One of the more quirky things about this resort is all the little setups along the beachfront that are basically there just for guests to get photos with. The bicycle covered in flowers in front of the resort’s sign, the staircase to nowhere, the giant clam or the tepee on the beach, just to name a few. These were all very popular with guests (including myself) and added a fun pop of colour to the resort.

Activities Hut

The activities hut is conveniently located next to the pool and is where guests can get fresh pool towels. Plus, it was impressive how many other things were available there.

The resort offers lessons for all levels in freediving, mermaid diving (the costume looks beautiful) and scuba diving. There’s a deep pool next to the gym that is specially used for these activities.

Guest can also hire Kayaks for 300THB per hour and massive pool floaties for 200TBH per hour.

I can understand that the diving courses cost money but I wasn’t a fan of being charged for use of Kayaks and pool floaties. Anyone in this area of the resort was already a paying guest so in my option, these should be free to use.

See The Animals at the Beach Zoo

Twice a day the resort’s cutest residents come to the lawn by the pool and interact with guests. These residents are a wise old Tortoise, two piglets, plus plenty of parrots, doves and bunny rabbits.

09:00 – 10:00
16:00 – 17:00

The animals aren’t confined to an enclosure during these times (except the rabbits did have a little pen) and freely moved around the area. There was always a staff member close by to make sure guests were taking care of the animals and also had seeds for the birds and bottles of milk for the piglets that guests could feed them.

As long as the animals are always shown respect I think this is a really fun idea, especially seeing the big Tortoise just wander around, munching on grass.

Helpful Taxi Service

Opposite reception Thavorn Beach Village Resort has a taxi stand and I found this super convenient because the taxis were usually ready and waiting.

So a Taxi to Patong if arranged by the resort’s taxi stand costs 300THB one way. Or the resort also had free shuttle bus services between the resort and Patong, but this unfortunately was only once a day. From memory, the shuttle left the resort at 4 pm back from Patong at 9 pm.

Also if anyone is after more than just a holiday in Phuket, maybe you want to get married? There is a section of the resort called Old Siam and this can be hired for a private function. Although it was never used during my stay so I didn’t get to see what it would look like all setup.

Nakalay Private Beach

Thavorn Beach Village Resort & Spa surrounds a private beach called Nakalay beach. I loved this because it made the resort have even more of a secluded feel.

The beach was less attractive at low tide though as the water went right out and exposed all the rocks on the ocean floor.

Thavorn Beach Village Resort Restaurants & Bars

Marisa Terrace Restaurant is the main restaurant in the resort & where breakfast is served. It’s right next to the pool so eating there was the perfect way to start the day.

Some of the food available at the buffet was freshly cooked eggs, hot Thai dishes, fruits & delicious bread & pastries.

The lunch & dinner menus were the same and everything we ordered was delicious & very nicely presented.

This is primarily a seafood restaurant but initially, I felt disappointed with how few Vegan or Vegetarian meal options there were. I asked for one of the dishes to be altered and the staff said they weren’t able to make changes.

But then on the second day at the resort, we stumbled upon a separate Vegan menu on the counter. So after that, I was set with plenty of meal choices.

I didn’t think to specifically ask for a “vegan menu” so if you also have these meal requirements, maybe just ask them.

Thavorn Beach Village Resort also has a pool bar & another restaurant near the beachfront but unfortunately, these are currently closed. They closed during covid & until guest numbers increase, the staff advised me that they’d remain closed. I think this is fair enough because I did find Phuket in general pretty quiet.

Thankfully there was another bar located very close to the pool and they have happy hour each day from 5-6 pm.

Another feature of the resort I loved & one that I think helps make this one of the best Phuket resorts for couples, is that guests can book to have a private dinner set up on the beach. During my stay, I saw a few of these dinners taking place. The set-up looked beautiful & would be so romantic, under the fairy lights along with the sound of the ocean.

Where is The Thavorn Beach Village Resort & Spa

Located in Kamala town, Thavorn Beach Village Resort is only a 15-minute drive from Bangla Road in Patong.

Within walking distance from the resort, there isn’t a whole lot but along the road running behind the resort, there are a few bars & restaurants which have had amazing ocean views. Although the road wasn’t ideal for pedestrians, getting to any of them would be best with a taxi or tuk-tuk.

I did find this quiet location added to the feel of the resort, ensuring there was never any street noise or loud music being heard in the distance. So even though the distance to Patong beach isn’t a whole lot, I felt as if we were in a completely secluded location.
