A flowing waterfall surrounded by lush jungle / Places to visit in queensland

A trip to Australia will not be complete until you’ve explored Queensland, especially if you love sunshine and being outdoors. They say Queensland is “Beautiful One Day Perfect The Next” and it really is! At the bottom of this page, I have linked to all A World To Lives travels guides on the best places to visit in Queensland.

Australia’s sunshine state has predominately warm weather all year round. Especially up north where cold days are still above 20 degrees. There is a wet season in Queensland, usually over a few weeks between the months of November and March. The state can see high rainfall, and possibly even flooding and cyclones!

It’s all a part of the experience and as long as it’s not too crazy & everyone is safe, a tropical storm can be pretty spectacular to witness!

Fun Facts About Queensland

The capital city in Queensland is Brisbane and some of the other most popular cities to visit are the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast & Cairns.

A few fun facts about Queensland are;

Queensland is home to the Great Barrier Reef, which is the largest coral reef system in the world. The reef stretches 2300 Km along the QLD coastline. And, Cairns & Airlie Beach are two of the best towns to base yourself if you want to explore the Great Barrier Reef.

There are 5 World Heritage Listed areas in Queensland,

The Great Barrier Reef
Fraser Island
The Scenic Rim National Park
Riversleigh Fossil Fields
The Wet Tropics

Queensland is the second-largest state in Australia after Western Australia. And, the Oz Beaches website has said that there are 1,711 beaches in the state.

There are 4 international airports in Queensland and they are Brisbane (BNE), Gold Coast (OOL), Cairns (CNS), and Townsville (TSV).

The Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland is the world’s oldest tropical lowland rainforest. (It’s so beautiful and is the perfect day trip if you’re staying in Cairns, Palm Cove, or Port Douglas).

Some of the Best Places to Visit in Queensland Include

Queensland has a very chilled atmosphere compared to other parts of Australia’s East Coast. Apart from the traffic between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, there’s never too much hustle & bustle. And, thongs (flip-flops) are acceptable footwear in most situations.

So while you’re relaxing and exploring this beautiful state, these are some of the best places to visit in Queensland.

Ways to Get Around Queensland

You have probably realized that Queensland is massive, but that doesn’t mean a road trip is a terrible idea, especially if you have a couple of weeks.

A road trip between the Gold Coast and Cairns would be epic, it could be done over a couple of weeks and there are so many towns to visit along the way, particularly Harvey Bay & Fraser Island, Bundaberg, Yeppoon & Townsville.

Flying is always a great option when traveling around Queensland. All the major airports in Queensland are close to the coast and along with the 4 international airports, there are also a number of regional domestic airports in Queensland.

Some of these are Harvey Bay (HVB), Hamilton Island (HTI) , Mackay (MKY), Whitsunday Coast (PPP) & Rockhampton (ROK). I always find Skyscanner really helpful to determine which airlines fly into these airports.

There is also the easy (but sometimes very time-consuming) option to use public transport. For an up-to-date schedule on Urban bus services, plus trains & ferry services around QLD, check out the government’s transport website.
