Children from IGWR Nepal

Sponsoring Children in Nepal & How You Can Help!

If you’ve been following me for a while you may have noticed how much love I have for Nepal, and a charity I support there is a big part of it! The name of this charity is; In Giving We Receive (IGWR), and I’m excited to share more about this with you.

I have been traveling to Nepal since 2009 with my best friend Bianca. Our first trip was for a month and we lived with a local family in Kathmandu. The main reason we traveled to Nepal was for charity work and to volunteer at a boarding school for underprivileged children, called Snowlands School.

We really didn’t know what to expect when we first arrived in Nepal. But it was only a matter of days before we completely fell in love, with the country and the beautiful people who call it home.

Since then we have visited Nepal every 18 months and spent anywhere from 3 weeks – 2 months at a time.

Over the years I have experienced confronting moments in Nepal. Meeting families who live in conditions that many people back home would consider to be “unlivable”.

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and many families live off less than $2 a day. So, of course, basic needs can be very hard to come by, mainly education & health care.

It was during our second trip to Nepal in 2011 we began supporting IGWR.

We met a few Australians who had traveled from Perth and introduced us to their NGO called ‘In Giving We Receive’ (IGWR). This was the moment we realized how easy it is to make a big difference.

IGWR Nepal is a non for profit charity that improves the lives of underprivileged and vulnerable children.

Since then we have met so many wonderful people, many of whom we now consider family. Bianca, myself, and together with our families, sponsor 5 children through IGWR. I have so many amazing memories with these kids and love seeing them grow up.

During my time in Nepal, I have been lucky enough to see firsthand how the charity runs and how all the donations are spent. They cover everything from education, health care, housing, and food. As well as a community school plus program.

IGWR Nepal is a charity that’s always growing, with more children, new projects, and new ways to raise funds.

One of the biggest blessings I’ve been given in my life is the opportunity to see these children shine. They have become happier, healthier, and more outgoing than when we first met. This is all thanks to IGWR and the generosity of all donors.

I’m sure for many of you, traveling has led to many confronting situations that made you realize, not everyone is as fortunate as us!

Every child in the world deserves an education and a safe place to sleep. I believe as humans who are all equal and should all work together for a brighter future.

As chairperson (and founding member) of IGWR, I delight in reading the experience of Elyse (and Bianca). I know firsthand how much they have received from all they have so generously given.

IGWR is very much a coming together of diverse individuals that have discovered that they can make a real difference in the world.

Somehow we all seem to share an appreciation of a world without boundaries. A world of universal appreciation, and a knowing that our own wellbeing is so intimately connected to the wellbeing of all.

We support a vision; that every child should have access to education so they can create a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. And in sharing this community responsibility we share in the creation of a better future for all.

I’m inspired by the work of Raja and the team on the ground in Nepal. Who give new life opportunities to vulnerable children. And equally inspired by the many supporters, like Elyse, who make that work possible and who care enough to make a real difference.

“A world to Live” is a delightful name for a Blog that reflects the travels of someone who loves to give life to those in faraway places.
